Today I handed in my BA thesis paper. Soon I’ll hopefully have a degree, but for now I’m about to start a stressful period filled with exams. What is the answer to all stress? Why, cookies, of course.
These particular ones were not for me though. A couple of weeks ago I had to prepare a bunch of baked goods for a childs birthday. I didn’t get many instructions, the mother only asked me to make it colorful.
So I did.
These cookies are adorable, but they also taste great. I may have even eaten a bunch before frosting them. (yes, I have. No regrets.)
Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies
source: adapted from Pinch of Yum
For the cookies:
- 2 sticks of butter, softened
- ¾ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
For the frosting:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- sprinkles
Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 350.
- In a big bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the cocoa and mix.
- Add flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and mix until combined.
- Roll small balls of the dough and place them on a baking sheet. With your thumb or a small spoon, make an indent for the frosting in each ball.
- Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until dry and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and press the indents down a bit, to make more room for frosting. Be careful not to break them. Let them cool.
- To make the frosting, mix powdered sugar, cocoa, and salt. Add 2 tablespoons of milk and vanilla extract. If necessary, add more milk (or sugar) to achieve the right consistency.
- Spoon the frosting into the indents and add sprinkles.

Na ciastka:
- 200 gram miękkiego masła
- ¾ szklanki cukru
- ⅓ szklanki kakao
- 2 szklanki mąki
- ½ łyżeczki soli
- ½ łyżeczki sody oczyszczonej
- 1 łyżeczka proszku do pieczenia
Na lukier:
- 1 szklanka cukru pudru
- 3 łyżki kakao
- szczypta soli
- 2-3 łyżki mleka
- 1 łyżeczka ekstraktu z wanilii
- posypka
Przygotowanie:
- Rozgrzej piekarnik do 170°C.
- W dużej misce wymieszaj masło i cukier, aż masa zrobi się puszysta. Dodaj kakao i wymieszaj.
- Dodaj mąkę, sól, sodę oczyszczoną, i proszek do pieczenia i wymieszaj, aż ciasto się połączy.
- Formuj z ciasta małe kulki i układaj je na blaszce. W każdej kulce zrób kciukiem lub małą łyżeczką wgłębienie na lukier.
- Piecz 7-9 minut.
- Wyjmij z piekarnika i ponownie dociśnij wgłębienia, by zrobić więcej miejsca na lukier. Uważaj, by nie połamać przy tym ciastek. Odstaw do ostudzenia.
- By przygotować lukier, wymieszaj cukier puder, kakao i sól. Dodaj 2 łyżki mleka, i ekstrakt z wanilii. Jeśli będzie to potrzebne, dodaj więcej mleka (lub cukru) aż do uzyskania odpowiedniej konsystencji.
- Umieść lukier we wgłębieniach ciastek i posyp posypką.
These cookies look and sound fantastic! Yay for your thesis being done! May your exams go well…I remember how stressful they can be!
