Orange Chocolate Cake

My best friend stayed with me for a couple of days this week. We spent most of the time watching our favorite shows (Firefly marathon, anyone?), and eating. There was a lot of “I’m hungry, let’s bake something” late in the evening, so our options were limited.

That’s why this is another one of these recipes that are created when you want to use up some ingredients you have laying around. We managed to whip this particular one up in minutes, not really paying attention to any recipes, and then writing it down later.

We then proceeded to eat the entire cake in 30 minutes flat. It went great with watching a show about space cowboys.

Orange Chocolate Cake

  • Servings: 9 generous squares
  • Print

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup orange juice, at room temperature
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. In a big bowl, combine butter and juice and mix until smooth. Add sugar, eggs, and espresso powder.
  3. Add all the dry ingredients and mix until the batter comes together.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips and pour the batter into greased (or lined with parchment paper) 9×9 baking dish.
  5. Bake for about 20 minutes, until set. Be careful not to over bake.

  • 100 gram masła, miękkiego
  • ½ szklanki soku pomarańczowego (w temperaturze pokojowej)
  • ¾ szklanki cukru
  • 2 jajka
  • 1 łyżeczka granulek kawy rozpuszczalnej
  • ½ szklanki kakao
  • ½ łyżeczki soli
  • 1 szklanka mąki
  • ½ łyżeczki sody oczyszczonej
  • 100 gram pokrojonej czekolady

  1. Rozgrzej piekarnik do 170°C.
  2. W dużej misce zmieszaj masło i sok. Dodaj cukier, jajka, i granulki kawy rozpuszczalnej.
  3. Dodaj wszystkie suche składniki i wymieszaj, aż ciasto będzie jednolitej konsystencji.
  4. Dodaj czekoladę i przelej ciasto do natłuszczonej (lub wyłożonej papierem do pieczenia) foremki 20x20cm.
  5. Piecz przez ok. 20 minut. Uważaj bo nie piec zbyt długo, bo ciasto zrobi się suche.

  1. I watched Buffy and Castle, but never Firefly. I had a ton of friends who loved the show though! It’s always great to have friends in town. The cake looks tasty as well. Happy FF, and have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

  2. This looks so good. Hmmm, if you had mint as well, would you have a cake version of those chocolate orange mint wafer things? I wonder… I used to love sneaking those at my mum’s dinner parties (looking back, I’m sure she knew). Happy Fiesta Friday.

  3. The combination of orange and chocolate is one of my favorite things in the world. This is absolute perfection. Glad to know that you enjoyed your time with your best friend and you enjoyed the movies. 🙂

Thank you for bringing this to today’s FF. Have a wonderful time. ❤
